SLJ Blink and you'll miss it Week 1

Logging in New Zealand
I think logging shouldn't be allowed in New Zealand because it destroys our animals habitats and then they will have nothing to eat and nowhere to live. We also need trees for oxygen. But we do need logs to build our Whares and furniture and to make paper.
We need to make sure we re-plant our forests when they have been cut down.

  1. Kia Ora Ariana,

My name is Dani, I am one of the blog commenters here at the Summer Learning Journey. I grew up in Okaihau and I moved to Auckland to go to university. I enjoy coming home and spending time in Northland every chance I get.

You have made some really good points! Unfortunately we can’t stop logging in New Zealand as we do need the timber. Like you said, replanting the forests is the best way to keep the logging industry going without cutting down more of our forests. We are very lucky here in New Zealand to have some many trees compared to people. Some countries have many more cities than forests so there aren’t as many trees per person to create oxygen.

Keep up the awesome mahi, have a good New Year!

    Blog ya later,

    Dani

  2. Hello Ariana,
I am Vitaraag. You have given some really good points about logging. I think that logging should be allowed but after every tree is cut down you have to plant a new one in its place. Do you want to stop logging forever? I kind of do. Maybe next time you can say what your overall answer about stopping logging or not. Do you think our planet will be destroyed if we keep on destroying trees. Keep up the phenomenal work!

  3. Hello Ariana,
I like how you had stated your opinion rather clearly and that you really strong feelings for it. I feel the same, and that people shouldn't cut them, or we should plant even more for our normal amount of oxygen and bird habitat. I also got quite interested when you said we still need paper and furniture from trees, as we can make them out of different things. How many trees do you think you need for 1000 sheets of paper? I think that is a medium tree taken down.

Maybe next time you can add a picture for more impact on the reader.

    Happy Blogging

  4. Hi Ariana,
Well done on finishing this activity. I think that cutting down trees is a necessity because we need to materials to build things like houses but it is also taking away animals habitats so it has lots of pros and cons. Keep up the good work.
